LTE Software Upgrade Enables Early Verification of Base-station Coverage, Testing of New, Existing Networks on a Single 8-Band Receiver
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb. 9, 2009 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today announced LTE Receiver Measurements as a software upgrade to its proven drive test platform, protecting customers’ previous investments in receiver hardware and offering multiple tests that accelerate deployment of LTE networks.
Network equipment manufacturers and wireless service providers can use the software on Agilent receivers to quickly verify base-station RF coverage, plot accurate coverage maps and validate planning, all of which speeds the deployment of LTE networks. The Agilent platform offers the most practical and least costly option for initial field testing, and reduces the need for a large number of far more expensive “rack-and-stack” test phones. The LTE drive test system is one of many Agilent “Measurement Solutions for a Mobile World” that it will demonstrate at Stand D45, Hall 1, at Mobile World Congress.
Since the Agilent drive test platform already supports all major established wireless technologies, a receiver with the software enhancement will not only measure LTE - P-SCH, S-SCH RSSI and LTE Cell-ID - but also provide simultaneous coverage of older 2G and 3G networks. Although LTE is the first truly global standard, it will co-exist with the earlier networks, and the enhanced platform enables simultaneous measurements of LTE and the existing technologies. An Agilent receiver can measure up to eight frequency bands - far more than competitive products - which eliminates the need to carry additional receivers into the field. The platform is the most flexible solution of its kind.
“Agilent receivers are an example of our company’s general strategy of developing hardware that can be enhanced with software as network technologies evolve,” said Todd Biddle, vice president and general manager of Agilent’s Network Solutions Division. “This strategy cuts our customers’ capital investments over the long term and, in the case of LTE receiver measurements, it enables current owners of Agilent receivers to integrate LTE testing with tests of existing networks. This integration is a compelling reason to choose Agilent.”
U.S. Pricing and Availability
The Agilent E6474A-645 LTE Receiver Measurements will be available in March 2009. Prices vary with configuration.

HICKORY, NC, January 29, 2009—Andrew, the CommScope, Inc. division that is a global leader in wireless communication systems and products, is going indoors with its Invex.NxG™ wireless drive-test system, offering new equipment that makes designing and testing indoor wireless coverage systems easier.
The i.Send™ portable transmitter imitates wireless base station signals by broadcasting radio frequency (RF) signals that allow for coverage measurements indoors. Network designers can use the i.Send transmitter to verify optimal antenna positioning for indoor distributed antenna systems (DAS) and as a low power source for testing the design and functionality of RF repeaters and base stations.
“The i.Send transmitter is a unique tool for verifying in-building coverage, DAS and repeater system design,” said John Baker, vice president and general manager, Network Solutions, Andrew. “Such a device should help operator engineers maximize the performance of their indoor networks prior to final installation.”
The portable Invex.NxG i.Send offers over 20 dBm of transmit power for up to four hours between battery charges and supports GSM, CDMA, UMTS and W-CDMA frequency bands with user-settable channel and message parameters. Users can configure i.Send via a Wi-Fi connection, selecting the desired frequency and modulation schemes, with the ability to set the parameters within the scheme. For ease of operation, the unit is placed in transmit or standby mode via the Wi-Fi connection.
Andrew’s Invex.NxG wireless drive-test system enables wireless operators to view their own and their competitors’ wireless voice and data services from the perspective of the subscriber by providing critical quality-of-service (QoS) measurements. Invex.NxG identifies failed originations, abnormal ends, call setup time, and call quality for improving voice service levels. It also performs packet data testing for analyzing upload/download throughput speeds for data services and can be used by field personnel for independently checking network signal strength and identifying base station locations and sectors, assisting them in their jobs.
